About the PDPA

From PDPA

Jump to: navigation, search

When most other organizations are asking you to spend your hard earned money to spend even more later in the year, the PDPA is asking you to spend money to make more money and grow your business. The PDPA works on two fronts; one is to help the people within the industry through our initiatives and the other is to work on promoting decorative painting as a whole to new clients and other industries like the design, architectural and building trades.

Our local Satellite focus is to get you in front of new customers and sell more jobs. In 2008, the PDPA Colorado Satellite hosted our first professional decorative painters exhibition with brilliant success. Sheri Hunt, Colorado Liaison, led the way with an amazing show of what decorative painting is really about.

Capitalizing on the Colorado Satellite’s momentum, the Texas Satellite hosted a decorative painting exhibition at the Austin AIA headquarters under the leadership of Catherine O’ Toole. With over 100 designers and Architects in attendance, members displayed their talents to the public and building trades communities.

2009 will bring more exhibitions and fundraisers designed to help our members find new clients and grow in their success as professional decorative painters.

What it means to be a PDPA member

Being a member of the PDPA means... you are dedicated to professionalism and you take pride in your work. The PDPA is building the foundation for a stronger industry and it is all thanks to membership support from people like you.

With a strong Code of Ethics in place and Education Standards passed in 2008, the PDPA is now moving towards performance standards and certification in these standards to give recognition and reward to those that have worked hard in their career. This will lead us down the path to where many people believe we need to go, and ultimately open more opportunities for job prospects, building stronger decorative painting companies.

Being a member of the PDPA means... that you are committed to this industry goal and you support the people working hard to make this happen. Our standards are not easy to meet. In fact, they are the most stringent in our industry, but when you step up to the task, know that you can wear the PDPA badge with pride.
Representing the diversity of people within our industry, PDPA members pride themselves on sharing with others and helping everyone within our industry grow. The PDPA is all inclusive in every aspect and fair minded with a single vision to elevate our trade.

The details

The Professional Decorative Painter’s Association (PDPA) is a private non-profit organization dedicated to the elevation of the community of professional decorative painting worldwide. We provide a forum for the industry’s stakeholders, craftspersons, students, and manufacturers to improve the level of practice and relationship design in our field. The founding board members include the industry’s leading practitioners, artisans, and advocates for the advancement of our trade. The Advisory Board members are the industry experts who create and design programs solely dedicated to elevating the craft. The Advisory Board takes its direction from a steering committee comprised of industry partners that fund and focus the Advisory Board through the sponsorship of initiatives dedicated to promoting the industry's interests in the areas of community, education, ethics, and technology.

History

The PDPA was founded as a local decorative painters association in Denver Colorado in 2003 by Andre Martinez. Local meetings we held under the direction of two local chapter presidents, Holly Bohlen and Cheryl Rowe. In 2004, there was a commitment requested of Pierre Finkelstein, Sean Crosby, Nicola Vigini, and Pascal Amblard to spearhead the association and take it to a national level. This request was accepted and the founding Board was formed. Under the direction of Rick Griffith, the association's first executive director, the PDPA gained momentum as a national organization.

In 2007, the PDPA expanded it board to encompass other industry leaders and experts to have an Advisory Board like no other in history. In 2007, Rick Griffith passed the torch off as executive director to Nick Cichielo, a well-respected industry veteran of 50 years. Under Nick's direction, the PDPA found a clearer mission and commenced the execution of many initiative-based projects between 2007 and 2009. The PDPA is currently the industry's leading resource for educational guidelines, assessment tools, and publisher of our industry's code of ethics, and plans to produce a monumental amount of resources for our industry in 2008.

2009 is set to be a big year for the PDPA with membership growing to new levels and projects that will help all decorative painters.

Thanks to membership support from people like you the PDPA is making history.

We are taking action

The Advisory Board members are the industry experts who create and design programs solely dedicated to elevating the craft. The Advisory Board takes its programs, outlines them, and seeks sponsorship to make them come to fruition. Once sponsorship is acquired the board or committee completes their project and releases its reward to the community.

Simple steps:

1. The Advisory Board designs projects under our initiatives, like publications, accreditation programs, etc.

2. Partners fund these programs.

3. After the projects completion, we release them to the industry.
